ROAD TO IRONMAN LOUISVILLE

a journey to my
first ironman

Well Sunday, August 31st 2008 has come an gone and I have officially completed my first Ironman. My official time was 13:05:40 and I finished in the top third of over 1,900 athletes competing in Ironman Louisville. I plan on keeping this site up for a bit longer in case you happen to come across it, see something you like and decide to become a donor.

For all of you who have donated and have given me your support through this entire process...THANK YOU! I couldn't have done it without you.

Your first question may be What is an Ironman?
In a nutshell, it is considered the hardest one-day endurance event and it is the longest of the four triathlon distances which consists of a

  • 2.4  mile swim
  • 112  mile bike
  • 26.2 mile run

That's right 140.6 miles of pure fun.

Which usually leads to question #2.
What makes a relatively sane person attempt such a thing?
Well besides the challenge itself and being able to overcome the pure mental and physical aspect of it all, I can literally trace my desire to compete in an Ironman to one day. Click here to learn more.

I would also like to use this Ironman to help bring awareness to and raise money for free breast cancer screening mammography for women who desperately need them, but can not afford them. To learn more please click here. To see those who have already lent their support to this important cause click here.

I debated whether or not I would put this website together, and the more I thought about it, the more I wanted to do it. One reason is that a lot of my family and friends live far away from me and I thought this would be a good way for them to stay up-to-date with my training and allow them to send me words of encouragement. Second, I thought this would be a good way for me to look back at this experience and have something to remember it all. Third, there's a slight chance that this site may be viewed by a potential Ironman and maybe it can help them prepare for this monumental task.
